What we deliver

Production Planning Software in the UAE: what is included

Production planning software UAE manufacturers use turns sales orders and forecasts into a realistic plan: which orders run on which line, when materials must arrive, and whether capacity exists this week.

01

MRP from orders and forecast

Sales orders and forecasts are exploded through bills of materials into material needs and planned production, with reorder rules and lot sizes per item. Planners review suggestions daily instead of rebuilding a spreadsheet.

02

Capacity scheduling by work centre

Orders are scheduled on work centres with their capacity, efficiency and working hours. A Gantt view shows load by day, overloaded centres in red, and drag-and-drop rescheduling with materials rechecked.

03

Material availability before release

Orders are released to the floor only when materials are in stock or confirmed to arrive. Shortages are listed with the purchase order and supplier date, so planners chase the right item.

04

Long import lead times

Imported materials from Asia or Europe carry realistic lead times including shipping and clearance. MRP plans purchases early enough, and delayed shipments show which production orders move and which customers need a new date.

05

Shift and holiday calendars

Each work centre follows a calendar with shifts, weekends, public holidays and Ramadan hours. Capacity in Ramadan or summer shifts is planned at the correct level, not assumed, so delivery promises stay honest all year.

06

What-if and priority changes

When a large order arrives, planners test moving it forward and see which orders slip. Sales gets a delivery date based on the plan, not a guess, and the chosen scenario is saved with its reason.

A worked example

Paint maker balancing stock and tinted orders

How production planning software in the UAE looks in practice. Illustrative; every project is scoped to the business.

Work order planning in Odoo Manufacturing
Work order planning in Odoo Manufacturing. Screenshot: Odoo S.A.

Picture a decorative and industrial paint manufacturer in Hamriyah Free Zone that makes standard colours to stock and tinted or special coatings to order for contractors across the UAE. Planners decide batch sizes by feel, tanks need cleaning between dark and light colours, and standard colours run out during the busy construction season while special orders wait.

  1. Set minimum and maximum stock levels for standard colours in Odoo from sales history, so MRP proposes make-to-stock batches in economical sizes before stock runs out.
  2. Model mixing tanks as work centres with cleaning times that depend on the previous colour, and sequence batches from light to dark wherever due dates allow.
  3. Reserve tank capacity each week for make-to-order special coatings, and give sales a realistic promise date based on the next free slot and pigment availability.
What changes: Standard colours stay in stock through the season, special orders receive dates the plant can keep, and tank cleaning becomes a planned cost instead of an interruption nobody accounted for.

Options compared

Which platform for production planning software in the UAE?

An honest comparison. We implement all of these, so the recommendation follows your processes, team and budget.

OptionBest whenHow it fits this need
Odoo Manufacturing with MRPA mix of make-to-stock and make-to-order batches on shared equipmentReplenishment rules, MRP and work centre planning cover most UAE process and batch plants at moderate cost. Colour-dependent cleaning sequences may need custom planning rules.
Business Central ManufacturingCosting, compliance and group finance carry equal weightSuits established manufacturers with strong finance requirements and several entities. Batch process features are adequate but finite scheduling may need add-ons; we implement independently, licences via Microsoft or a CSP.
Dynamics 365 Supply Chain ManagementA large process manufacturer with several plants and formulasOffers process manufacturing, formulas and advanced planning for large operations. Too heavy for a single mid-sized plant; worth considering only at enterprise scale with a dedicated team.
Planning spreadsheet with an ERPYour ERP handles stock and costing but planning is simpleIf you have few products and stable demand, a well-built spreadsheet fed from your ERP may be enough. Move to system planning when variety and rush orders grow.
UAE specifics

What changes in the UAE

The local rules and realities we design for before go-live. Rules change, so we re-check the current position at scoping.

Ramadan and summer capacity

Reduced working hours in Ramadan and different summer shift patterns change capacity materially. Calendars are set per year, so plans and delivery promises reflect real hours.

Imports and customs clearance

Most UAE factories import raw materials, paying 5% GCC customs duty and waiting for clearance. Lead times include shipping and clearance, so MRP orders early enough and duty is included in planned material cost.

Free zone and mainland demand

Plants selling from a free zone to both export and mainland customers plan against both demand streams, with stock allocated by entity where needed, and customs documents kept for each transfer.

Cost and integrations

What drives the cost, and what it connects to

No price list: we quote a fixed price in AED after discovery. These are the factors that move the effort up or down.

Formula and recipe setup

Loading formulas, batch sizes and yields for each product takes time with your technical team, and variant-rich ranges such as colours need a sensible structure first.

Forecast and replenishment rules

Setting reorder levels and seasonal forecasts from sales history requires analysis and review. Poor rules produce poor plans, so this step deserves proper time.

Sequencing constraints

Colour, allergen or material sequence rules may need custom logic beyond standard scheduling, adding development and testing compared with a simple job shop.

Quality and lot tracking

Capturing quality checks and lot genealogy for every batch adds configuration and floor routines, but is often required by contractors and export customers.

What it connects to

Sales and CRM

Confirmed orders and forecasts flow into MRP; planned completion dates flow back so sales can promise realistic delivery.

Purchase and supplier portals

Raw material requirements create purchase requests; supplier confirmations and shipment dates update material availability.

Quality lab records

Test results for each batch are recorded against the lot and gate its release to finished stock.

Weighing scales

Actual quantities of ingredients weighed at mixing flow into the batch record for yield and costing.

Power BI

Plan adherence, stock cover by product and equipment utilisation are reported for weekly planning meetings.

How it works

How we deliver production planning software

Phases, indicative timing and what is delivered in each. Scope is fixed and priced in AED before we start.

1Weeks 1-2

Planning review

We study your current plan, bills of materials, routings, lead times and how sales promises delivery dates.

2Weeks 2-4

Data clean-up

Bills of materials, routings, work centre capacities and lead times checked and corrected, because planning depends on them.

3Weeks 4-8

Configure planning

MRP rules, work centre calendars, scheduling, shortage reports and planner dashboards configured and tested with real orders.

4Weeks 8-10

Parallel planning

The new plan runs alongside the old spreadsheet for several weeks until planners trust its output.

5Week 10 onward

Handover

Planners and sales trained on promise dates, with a monthly review of plan accuracy for three months.

When production planning software is the wrong answer

If your factory runs one product on one line, a simple reorder rule and a weekly spreadsheet may be enough; planning software pays off with several lines and many orders. If your bills of materials and routings are not accurate, fix them first, or any planning tool will produce a confident but wrong plan.

How we handle it: We implement Zoho, Odoo and Dynamics 365 and build AI and custom software, so our written recommendation can point you to a simpler option, or to doing nothing yet.

Before you buy

Checklist and common mistakes

Buyer's checklist

What to ask for before you choose a provider.

  • Ask how the system balances make-to-stock replenishment against make-to-order demand on shared equipment.
  • Confirm sequence-dependent cleaning or setup times can be modelled, not just a fixed setup per job.
  • Check how forecasts or seasonal patterns feed the plan alongside confirmed orders.
  • Require raw material checks, including imported inputs with long lead times, before batches are released.
  • Ask how planners override the proposed plan and how changes affect other orders' dates.
  • Confirm how batch records, lot numbers and quality results are captured for traceability.

Common mistakes

What we see go wrong in the UAE, and how to avoid it.

  • Planning only from confirmed ordersMake-to-stock products need forecasts or reorder rules, or they run out in peak season. Combine replenishment rules with orders so both are planned together.
  • Ignoring sequence-dependent setupsA fixed setup time hides the real cost of switching from dark to light batches. Model setups by sequence where it matters, even with simple rules.
  • Oversized batches for slow productsProducing large batches of slow-moving items ties up capacity and stock. Set batch sizes per product based on demand and shelf life.
  • No owner for planning parametersLead times, reorder levels and speeds drift after go-live. Assign a named planner to review these parameters monthly so the plan stays trustworthy.

FAQ

Production Planning Software in the UAE: questions we get asked

What does production planning software UAE manufacturers use actually plan?
It plans which production orders run on which work centre and when, what materials must be bought and by when, and whether capacity exists. It uses bills of materials, routings, work centre calendars, stock and supplier lead times to produce a plan and realistic delivery dates.
How is production planning software different from manufacturing software?
Production planning software decides what to make, when and on which line, before work starts. Manufacturing software executes and records the work on the shop floor. Many factories need both, and in Odoo they share the same orders and data.
Does Odoo offer finite capacity scheduling?
Odoo schedules work orders on work centres with calendars and capacity, and shows load on a Gantt view where planners reschedule. For very complex sequencing, such as colour or changeover optimisation, a specialist scheduler can be connected; we assess this at scoping.
Can the plan reflect Ramadan working hours?
Yes. Work centre calendars are set per year with Ramadan and summer hours, weekends and public holidays, so capacity and delivery dates reflect the real working time. Planners see the reduced capacity weeks in advance and can build stock before Ramadan starts.
How long does it take to see results?
Usually eight to ten weeks to parallel planning, most of which is data clean-up. Planners typically switch fully once the system plan matches reality for several weeks. We give a fixed quote in AED after a free discovery call.
Can sales get delivery dates from the plan?
Yes. Sales staff see a promised date based on materials and capacity when they enter an order, and are alerted if a later change moves that date. This reduces promises the factory cannot meet, and gives the sales manager a list of orders at risk each morning.
Can production planning software in the UAE handle make-to-stock and make-to-order together?
Yes. Odoo and Business Central both let each product follow its own strategy. Standard items are replenished by reorder rules or forecasts, while custom items are produced only against orders. The planner sees both types of demand on the same capacity and decides how much room to reserve for each.
Can the plan account for summer and seasonal demand swings?
Yes. Forecasts can vary by month, and reorder levels can be raised ahead of known busy periods so stock is built earlier using spare capacity. Reviewing these seasonal parameters each year, with sales input, keeps the plan aligned with how UAE demand actually moves.
Do we need barcode scanners on the shop floor for production planning?
Not at the start. Planning works from orders, capacity and material data. Scanners or tablets become valuable once you want real-time progress and lot tracking. Many plants start with supervisors updating job status at shift end, then add scanning in a second phase.
