What we use to deliver Odoo POS implementation

Only what the first phase needs is switched on; more follows in later phases.

What we deliver

Odoo POS Implementation in Dubai: what is included

Odoo POS Dubai projects from Shyphan set up point of sale for retailers in Dubai Mall, Mall of the Emirates, Deira, Karama and community centres.

01

Mall retail at peak volume

Shops in Dubai Mall and Mall of the Emirates serve queues of tourists at weekends and during festivals. Fast barcode checkout, offline mode and several tills per shop keep lines moving even when the mall network is slow.

02

Tourist VAT refund tagging

Retailers in the UAE tourist VAT refund scheme need eligible receipts identified. We add a tourist flag and fields to the POS order and receipt; the refund itself runs through the scheme operator's system, which your store staff continue to use.

03

Gold, perfume and electronics in Deira

Deira and Gold Souk traders sell high-value items where serial numbers, weights or batch codes matter. Serial and lot capture at checkout, with manager approval on discounts, gives traceability for warranties and returns.

04

DSF and Ramadan promotions

Promotions for the Dubai Shopping Festival, Ramadan, Eid and White Friday are scheduled in advance with start and end times, buy-X-get-Y rules and gift cards, and apply automatically at every Dubai branch.

05

Card terminals and wallets

Where Odoo has a native integration for your acquirer's terminal, we use it; otherwise terminals run standalone and settlements are reconciled daily. Apple Pay and Google Pay work through the terminal as normal card payments.

06

Branch chains across Dubai

A chain with branches in Karama, Al Barsha and Silicon Oasis manages products, prices and promotions centrally, with per-branch stock, cash control and sales reports, and transfers between branches from the POS.

A worked example

Optical chain with prescriptions and online

How Odoo POS implementation in Dubai looks in practice. Illustrative; every project is scoped to the business.

The Odoo Point of Sale screen
The Odoo Point of Sale screen. Screenshot: Odoo S.A.

For example, an optical retailer with shops in Deira City Centre, Karama and two community malls sells frames, lenses and contact lenses in store and online. Prescriptions are kept on paper cards, lens orders to the lab are phoned in, and online orders are fulfilled from whichever shop happens to have stock.

  1. Configure Odoo POS in each shop with a customer record holding prescription details in a custom field, so any branch can reorder lenses for a returning customer.
  2. Create a lens job flow where a POS sale generates a purchase order to the lens lab, with status visible to the shop that promised the collection date.
  3. Connect Odoo eCommerce to shared stock so online orders reserve frames from the nearest shop with stock, and click-and-collect appears as a POS pickup.
What changes: Customers can walk into any branch and be served with their history, lens orders are no longer lost between phone calls, and online orders stop being promised from stock that another shop has already sold.

Options compared

Which platform for Odoo POS implementation in Dubai?

An honest comparison. We implement all of these, so the recommendation follows your processes, team and budget.

OptionBest whenHow it fits this need
Odoo POS with eCommerceDubai retailers selling in shops and online from shared stockSuits chains that want shops, website and warehouse on one stock figure, with loyalty and promotions applied the same way in-store and online. Needs disciplined product data to work well.
Shopify POSOnline-first brands with a few pop-up or mall shopsA good choice when the webshop is the main business and shops are secondary. Accounting, purchasing and warehouse control then live elsewhere, so reconciliation needs an integration or manual work.
Zoho POS and Zoho CommerceSmall retailers already running Zoho BooksReasonable for a small Dubai retailer inside the Zoho ecosystem wanting simple tills and a webshop. Larger chains with complex promotions and many branches usually find Odoo more flexible.
Specialist retail POSSingle-vertical retail with niche compliance, such as pharmacyVertical POS tools can suit pharmacy or jewellery where specific regulation or weight-based pricing rules dominate. They often need a separate ERP, which Odoo can be, via integration.
UAE specifics

What changes in Dubai

The local rules and realities we design for before go-live. Rules change, so we re-check the current position at scoping.

Timed around Dubai's retail calendar

We schedule go-lives away from the Dubai Shopping Festival, Ramadan and Eid, and build their promotions in advance, so the system is stable before the busiest trading weeks.

Multilingual shop staff

Retail staff in Dubai come from many countries. The POS screen can be set per user language, and training uses short, visual guides in English and Arabic.

On-site support in Dubai

Opening days go better with someone in the shop. We provide on-site support in Dubai for pilot and rollout days, then remote support from our RAK office.

Working with businesses in Dubai: we support companies across JAFZA, DMCC, Dubai Silicon Oasis, Dubai Internet City, DIFC, Al Quoz and Dubai South, with remote delivery and on-site workshops where the project needs them.

Cost and integrations

What drives the cost, and what it connects to

No price list: we quote a fixed price in AED after discovery. These are the factors that move the effort up or down.

Promotion rule complexity

Buy-one-get-one, bundle pricing, member-only discounts and campaign windows each need configuring and testing, and Dubai retail calendars often stack several promotions at the same time.

Online and shop stock

Connecting eCommerce, click-and-collect and branch stock adds routes, reservation rules and fulfilment logic that a shops-only rollout does not need, plus testing of each fulfilment path.

Product catalogue quality

Thousands of SKUs with inconsistent barcodes, missing variants or no Arabic names need cleanup before import, and this often drives more effort than till setup.

Payment methods and terminals

Each card terminal model, wallet and gift card type needs integration and testing, and some acquirers require their own certification steps before live use.

What it connects to

Card terminals and acquirers

The sale amount is sent from Odoo to the terminal and the approval code returns to close the order.

Tourist VAT refund operator

Eligible sales are tagged in the POS so shop staff can complete the refund process through the operator's system.

Tabby and Tamara

Buy-now-pay-later payments are recorded as a POS payment method, with settlements reconciled in Odoo Accounting.

Odoo eCommerce

Online orders reserve branch stock and create click-and-collect pickups that shop staff complete at the till.

Aramex or local couriers

Home delivery orders send shipping details out and receive tracking numbers back for customer updates.

How it works

How we deliver Odoo POS implementation

Phases, indicative timing and what is delivered in each. Scope is fixed and priced in AED before we start.

1Week 1

Store visit

We visit a Dubai branch at a busy time to see checkout, returns, cash handling and stock replenishment in practice.

2Weeks 2-3

Configure

Products, barcodes, pricelists, taxes, promotions, loyalty and receipts set up, with branches and cash rules per shop.

3Weeks 3-4

Hardware test

Tablets or terminals, printers, scanners, scales and card terminals tested together, including offline sales at the pilot branch.

4Weeks 4-5

Pilot branch

One branch goes live first; staff feedback is used to tune screens and promotions before the rest follow.

5Weeks 5-8

Roll out

Remaining branches go live in waves, avoiding festival peaks, with on-site support for opening days.

When Odoo POS implementation is the wrong answer

Odoo POS suits retail chains that want shops, online and warehouse in one system. For restaurants with complex kitchen routing, see our Odoo Restaurant page. Very large hypermarkets with dozens of lanes and scale-integrated fresh counters may need a specialist retail POS connected to Odoo.

How we handle it: We implement Zoho, Odoo and Dynamics 365 and build AI and custom software, so our written recommendation can point you to a simpler option, or to doing nothing yet.

Before you buy

Checklist and common mistakes

Buyer's checklist

What to ask for before you choose a provider.

  • Ask how promotions are tested before Dubai Shopping Festival so a pricing error does not hit every branch at once.
  • Require a demonstration of tourist VAT refund tagging with the process your shops follow today.
  • Check which UAE card terminals and wallet payments they have integrated and tested in a live mall environment.
  • Confirm how returns and exchanges between branches, and between online and shop, affect stock and accounting.
  • Ask how quickly they can support a branch whose tills stop during a mall's peak evening trade.
  • Get a plan for product data cleanup, including barcodes, variants and Arabic names, before any till goes live.

Common mistakes

What we see go wrong in the UAE, and how to avoid it.

  • Launching new tills during DSFGo-lives in the weeks before Dubai Shopping Festival or Eid leave no room for teething problems. Schedule rollouts in quieter months and freeze changes before peak trading.
  • Different product codes per branchBranches that created their own codes for the same item break stock transfers and reports. Merge duplicates into one master catalogue before importing into Odoo.
  • No plan for mall connectivityMall internet can be unreliable at peak hours. Test offline selling and sync on your actual shop network, and keep a mobile data backup in each branch.
  • Untested promotions going liveA misconfigured discount copied to every branch can cost real margin in hours. Test every promotion in a staging database before switching it on across Dubai.

FAQ

Odoo POS Implementation in Dubai: questions we get asked

Can Odoo POS Dubai setups handle tourist VAT refunds?
Odoo does not issue tourist refunds itself. We add a tourist flag and fields to POS orders and receipts so eligible sales are easy to identify, while staff use the refund scheme operator's system as they do today.
Does Odoo POS work with UAE card terminals?
Odoo has native integrations with some terminal providers. If your acquirer is not supported, the terminal runs standalone and we reconcile settlements to POS sessions daily, or build an integration where the provider offers an API.
Can we run Dubai Shopping Festival promotions across all branches?
Yes. Promotions are set up centrally with start and end dates, rules and eligible products, and apply at every branch or only the ones you choose. Reports show promotion sales and margin by branch. Staff do not need to key discount codes.
What is the difference between Odoo POS and Odoo eCommerce?
Odoo POS runs checkout in physical shops; Odoo eCommerce runs your online store. Both share products, prices, loyalty and stock, so a customer's points and a product's availability are the same in store and online.
Does Odoo POS work when the mall internet drops?
Yes. The POS keeps selling offline and syncs orders when the connection returns. Card payments still depend on the terminal's own connection, so we recommend a mobile data backup for terminals in busy malls. Sessions reconcile normally once back online.
How long does it take to roll out Odoo POS in Dubai?
A single shop can go live in four to five weeks; a chain usually rolls out over six to eight weeks in waves. We give a fixed quote in AED after a free discovery call and a branch visit.
Can Odoo POS Dubai accept Tabby or Tamara at the till?
Yes, as a payment method. Staff complete the buy-now-pay-later transaction through the provider's flow, and Odoo records the sale against that payment method. Settlements from the provider are then reconciled in Odoo Accounting. Direct integrations depend on the provider's current API, so we confirm the approach during discovery.
Can Odoo POS show different prices in Dubai Mall and in a Deira branch?
Yes. Each POS can use its own price list, so a flagship mall store and a Deira branch can sell the same item at different prices, or run a promotion only in one location. Head office still reports on all branches from one database with consistent product codes.
Can cashiers in Dubai use Odoo POS in languages other than English?
Yes. Odoo's interface is available in many languages, including Arabic, and each user can choose their own. Product names can hold Arabic translations for receipts. We check that receipt printers handle Arabic characters properly before rollout to Dubai shops, including on receipts that mix both languages.
Why choose Shyphan?
We are a Zoho Premium Partner, an Official Odoo Partner and an independent Dynamics 365 consultancy that also builds AI and custom software, so we recommend by fit rather than by what we resell. Delivery runs from our Ras Al Khaimah office with remote delivery across all seven emirates.
