Overview

Frappe Cloud or self-hosted: choosing well

Frappe Cloud is the managed platform run by the makers of ERPNext. You pick a region, including EU options, and the platform looks after servers, operating system patches, backups and version updates. It suits most SMEs that want ERPNext without employing someone to look after Linux servers, and it keeps your set-up close to how Frappe itself runs and tests the software.

Self-hosting makes sense when you already run an EU cloud tenancy, need private networking to a factory or warehouse, or want full control over server size and database access. It also means someone owns patching, monitoring and restores. We set up the bench with production-grade defaults and either hand it to your IT team with runbooks or manage it under an annual contract.

What you get

What our ERPNext hosting service includes

Hosting needs assessment

We compare Frappe Cloud plans and self-hosted options against your user numbers, integrations, data location needs and in-house skills, then recommend one with the reasoning written down for your board.

Backups you have tested

Automated daily database and file backups, copies kept away from the main server and restore tests carried out on a schedule, because a backup nobody has ever restored is only a hope.

Staging and production sites

A staging copy of production lets you try upgrades, custom app releases and new settings with real data before users see them, then promote each change to the live site with confidence.

Server security hardening

SSL certificates, firewall rules, two-factor login for administrators, strong password policies and limited SSH access, with system accounts kept separate from the business users who log in and work each day.

Monitoring and alerts

Uptime checks, disk and memory alerts, failed background job notices and slow request logs are watched, so problems surface before users start ringing finance to ask why invoices will not save.

Managed version upgrades

Major ERPNext and Frappe releases are applied on staging first, custom apps are tested against them, and production is upgraded in an agreed window with a written rollback plan ready.

Hosting points for Irish organisations

TopicThe Irish ruleWhat we set up
GDPR and data locationPersonal data is governed by GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018, and the Data Protection Commission is the Irish supervisory authority. We place sites in an EU region on Frappe Cloud or your EU cloud account, keep backups in the EU as well and document where each copy sits for your records of processing.
Irish timeIreland runs on GMT in winter and Irish Standard Time in summer, which affects posting dates, timestamps and when scheduled jobs fire. The site time zone is set to Europe/Dublin, so scheduled reports, auto-repeat invoices, backups and period-end jobs run at the expected local hour all year round.
Records behind Revenue filingsFigures filed on ROS in VAT3 returns and the Return of Trading Details come from your accounting records, so those records must stay intact and reachable.Backup retention is agreed with your accountant, closed periods are locked, and an archived copy can be restored to a separate site whenever an auditor needs to look back.
Security of personal dataGDPR requires appropriate technical and organisational security for personal data, and the Data Protection Commission can investigate when an organisation falls short.Administrator accounts use two-factor login, database access is limited to named engineers, and access logs are kept so you can show who reached the server and when.

We configure the system and check it against your accountant’s figures; we are not tax advisers, and your accountant files the returns. Last reviewed 24 October 2026.

How it runs

Getting your ERPNext hosting in place

1

Assess needs

We review users, integrations, data volumes, growth plans and any network constraints at your sites, then agree the hosting model and region with you in writing.

2

Provision sites

Production and staging sites are created on Frappe Cloud or your EU cloud account, with domains, SSL and email sending configured and tested end to end.

3

Harden and monitor

Security settings, backup schedules, offsite copies and monitoring alerts are put in place, and a first full restore test proves the backups actually work before go-live.

4

Migrate or go live

A new implementation goes live on the prepared site, or an existing site moves across in a planned evening window with checks before users return.

5

Run and upgrade

Under an annual contract we watch alerts, apply updates, run periodic restore tests and plan major upgrades, then report on site health to you every quarter.

FAQ

ERPNext Hosting in Ireland: questions answered

Is Frappe Cloud hosted in the EU?
Frappe Cloud lets you choose a region when a site is created, and EU regions are available. We select one for Irish clients by default, keep backups in the EU too, and record the location for your GDPR documentation. If your policies demand a specific provider or country, self-hosting gives you that control.
Can we host ERPNext on our existing Azure or AWS account?
Yes. A self-hosted bench runs well on a Linux virtual machine in an EU region of Azure, AWS or Google Cloud, with a managed database if you prefer. You keep the infrastructure bill and billing relationship; we install, harden and document the bench, and can manage it under contract.
Can you move our site from another host to Frappe Cloud?
Yes. We take a full backup of database and files, restore it to a staging site on Frappe Cloud, check custom apps and integrations, then repeat the move for real during a quiet window. DNS changes are planned in advance so the switch is short and users simply log in at the usual address.
Who pays the hosting bill?
You contract directly with Frappe Cloud or your cloud provider and pay them, so the account and data are always in your name. Our fees cover set-up and management work. We do not resell hosting with a hidden margin, and you can see exactly what the infrastructure costs.
How often should ERPNext be updated?
Minor updates with fixes arrive regularly and are worth applying every few weeks after a quick check on staging. Major versions arrive less often and change more, so we plan those as small projects with testing of custom apps and reports. Falling several versions behind makes the eventual jump harder and riskier.
Can ERPNext run on a server in our own building?
It can, and some plants with poor connectivity prefer it. You then need reliable power, offsite backups and someone responsible for the hardware. For most offices an EU cloud host is cheaper to run and easier to recover, so we usually recommend cloud unless there is a clear reason not to.
