How it works

The business process, step by step

Customer forecast
Customer forecasts are recorded in Odoo Sales and used as the demand signal for planning, so material purchasing and production can be scheduled ahead of confirmed orders.

Order
Confirmed customer orders are entered in Odoo Sales. Each order feeds manufacturing planning, so production and material needs follow actual orders as well as the customer forecasts.

BOM and production plan
Odoo Manufacturing uses bills of materials and MRP to work out the production plan and material needs. Raw materials are then purchased through Odoo Purchase to match the plan.

Batch production and QA
Production runs in batches through work orders in Odoo Manufacturing. Odoo Quality applies QC checks, and a batch is only released for shipping once it passes the release gate.

Export documents
For each shipment, exporter documentation is generated from the order in Odoo, so the paperwork lines up with the released batches and the quantities being shipped.

Shipment and invoice
Released batches are shipped with barcode scanning on every warehouse move in Odoo Inventory. Odoo Accounting raises the export invoice, with GST applied as applicable.

Questions about this project

How is each device traced to its batch?

Odoo Inventory uses lot tracking with barcode scanning on every warehouse move. Each batch produced in Odoo Manufacturing carries its lot through storage, QA release and shipment, so any device can be traced back to the batch it came from.

What stops a batch from shipping before QA?

Odoo Quality applies QC checks and release gates to each batch. Shipping is blocked until the batch has been released, so only batches that have passed QA can be picked and shipped to customers.

How are export documents prepared?

Exporter documentation is generated per shipment from the order in Odoo. This keeps the documents consistent with the order, the released batches and the export invoice raised in Odoo Accounting, with GST applied as applicable.
