What it involves

What Custom Software Development actually delivers

Custom Software Development means building the system your business actually runs on, when nothing off the shelf fits the process.

For Irish teams that matters because a parent-company licence, a group entity and a branch office often sit under one owner here, so the software has to keep entities clean while giving the group one view. We build for Irish businesses whose core process is their differentiator and does not fit a packaged product, and we say no when a packaged product would do the job better than a custom build.

We work in React, Node.js, Python, .NET, Flutter, PostgreSQL, AWS and Azure, plus Zoho Creator where low-code is the faster answer, chosen because they are maintainable and widely supported, so you are never locked to us by an exotic technology choice.

Across Ireland

Custom Software Development across Ireland

We deliver custom software development for clients in Dublin, Cork, Galway, Limerick, Waterford, Drogheda, Kilkenny and Letterkenny. Projects run remotely on Irish working hours with on-site workshops in Dublin, Cork and Galway where discovery or training justifies it.

Staff turnover and visa cycles are higher than most markets, so processes that live in one person's head or one person's WhatsApp are a genuine business risk. Whatever the sector, the failure mode is the same: software built without the people who use it, and abandoned within a year. Discovery is where we prevent that.

If this is the area you are in, these help too: Construction Software Development in Ireland, Custom Software Development in Ireland and Education Software Development in Ireland.

Local compliance

What Ireland compliance means in practice

Almost everything Irish Revenue wants arrives through ROS, and payroll arrives on or before the day people are paid. For a subsidiary of an overseas group the harder part is usually not the Irish return itself but keeping the Irish books in a shape that satisfies both Revenue and the parent's reporting calendar.

ObligationWhat the rule isWhat has to be configured
VATThe standard rate is 23 per cent, with 13.5 and 9 per cent reduced rates and a zero rate on several categories. VAT3 returns are normally bi-monthly through ROS by the 23rd, and a Return of Trading Details follows annually.Tax rules per rate and per supply type, reverse charge on intra-EU acquisitions and on construction under RCT, and a VAT3 that reconciles to the ledger without a spreadsheet in between.
PAYE ModernisationA payroll submission goes to Revenue on or before each payday, carrying PAYE, PRSI and USC for every employee. There is no annual P35.Revenue Payroll Notifications imported before each run, so employees are taxed on the credits Revenue has actually issued rather than last month's.
Relevant Contracts TaxPrincipal contractors in construction, forestry and meat processing must notify each contract and each payment to Revenue, and deduct at the rate Revenue returns.Subcontractor records that hold the RCT rate and the deduction authorisation, with payment notification built into the payment run.
Corporation tax12.5 per cent on trading income and 25 per cent on passive income, with a 15 per cent effective minimum for in-scope large groups under Pillar Two.Trading and non-trading income separated in the ledger from the start, because splitting them afterwards is where the time goes.
Companies Registration OfficeAn annual return on Form B1 within 56 days of the annual return date, with financial statements attached.Statutory accounts produced from the same ledger the management accounts come from, so the two do not have to be reconciled.
GDPRThe Data Protection Commission supervises GDPR in Ireland, and is lead supervisory authority for many of the technology companies established here.Lawful-basis and consent records held against the contact, retention applied by the system, and subject access answered from a report rather than a search of inboxes.

The filing calendar

  • Every paydayPayroll submission to Revenue through ROS
  • Bi-monthly, by the 23rdVAT3 return
  • Monthly, by the 23rdPAYE, PRSI and USC payment
  • Within 56 days of the ARDForm B1 annual return to the CRO

Who you file with

We configure the system to produce what these returns ask for, and we test it against your own transactions before go-live. We are not tax agents: your accountant or tax adviser signs the return, and rates and thresholds change, so treat this as the shape of the work rather than advice. Last reviewed 15 September 2026.

FAQ

Logistics Software Development Ireland: questions answered

How does PAYE Modernisation change the payroll process?
A payroll submission goes to Revenue on or before each payday, carrying PAYE, PRSI and USC for every employee, and there is no annual P35 to catch up on. The part that matters in setup is importing Revenue Payroll Notifications before each run, so people are taxed on the credits Revenue has actually issued.
Should we build custom or buy off the shelf?
Buy wherever a packaged product fits. We turn down custom builds where Zoho, an ERP or a vertical product would do the job, because a bad custom decision costs you for years. Custom is right when the process is your competitive advantage, or when no product covers it without heavy compromise.
How long does a custom build take?
A focused first release is commonly 8 to 16 weeks: two to three weeks of discovery and prototype, then build in two-week increments you review. Larger platforms run longer and are phased so something useful ships early.
Who owns the code?
You do. Source, repositories, documentation and cloud accounts are in your name from day one. There is no escrow arrangement and no dependency on us to keep operating.
How much does custom software development cost in Ireland?
We quote a fixed price in EUR after a discovery session, broken into phases so you are never committing to the whole build on day one. Anyone quoting a number before understanding the process is guessing, and you will pay for that guess later.
What happens after launch?
You own everything: code, repositories, cloud accounts and documentation. Most clients take a monthly support retainer for fixes, security patching and enhancements, but you are free to take it in-house or elsewhere.
Do you work outside Dublin?
Yes. We deliver across Dublin, Cork, Galway, Limerick, Waterford, Drogheda, Kilkenny and Letterkenny, remotely as standard with on-site attendance in Dublin, Cork and Galway where the project justifies it.
What does the first conversation cover?
A short discovery call: what you run today, what is not working, who it affects and what a good outcome looks like. You leave it knowing whether we are a fit and roughly what the work involves, with no obligation either way.
Who will we actually work with?
A named consultant who stays with the engagement, not a rotating queue. You will meet them before you commit, and they are the person accountable for delivery.

Where custom development is weak - and what we do about it

Bespoke software costs more than configuring a product and you own it forever, including the maintenance. If an off-the-shelf tool covers 80% of the need, building from scratch is usually the wrong call.

How we handle it: We say so at the first call, even when it means a smaller project - and we scope the 20% as a configuration or integration job instead.
