Finance in Oman

Getting Zoho Billing right in Oman

Most Omani finance teams come to us with the same four problems. This is how we handle them in Zoho Billing.

Tax codes on every line, not every invoice

Oman’s 5% VAT has standard, zero-rated, exempt and reverse-charge treatments, and one invoice can mix them. We set the tax treatment on items and contacts so the right code lands on each line, which is what makes the VAT return a report rather than a reconciliation.

Imports, customs and landed cost

Goods imported through Sohar, Salalah or Muscat carry 5% customs duty and import VAT from the Bayan declaration. We record both against the purchase, so stock carries its true cost and input VAT is claimed in the right period.

Three decimals, everywhere

The rial has 1,000 baisa, so totals, rounding and bank reconciliation have to work to three decimals. We check templates, payment imports and reports for rounding drift before go-live.

Ready for e-invoicing

The Oman Tax Authority is phasing in e-invoicing. We keep customer VAT numbers, document numbering and invoice data structured now, so connecting later is a configuration step.

What it does

What Zoho Billing gives you out of the box

  • Plans, add-ons, coupons, trials and usage-based pricing models
  • Automated dunning, retries and card-expiry chasing to cut involuntary churn
  • Proration on mid-cycle upgrades, downgrades and pauses
  • Regional payment gateways including Thawani, OmanNet and Stripe
  • MRR, ARR, churn and cohort retention reporting out of the box
Understanding Zoho Billing

Is Zoho Billing the right fit for your business?

Zoho Billing suits Omani SaaS, membership, facilities-contract and maintenance-contract businesses. If that describes you the platform will earn its licence quickly; if it does not, we will say so on the discovery call rather than after the invoice.

The capabilities that matter most in Omani deployments are plans, add-ons, coupons, trials and usage-based pricing models and automated dunning, retries and card-expiry chasing to cut involuntary churn. Everything else is configuration around those two.

Staff turnover and visa cycles are higher than most markets, so processes that live in one person's head or one person's WhatsApp are a genuine business risk. We size the edition against what you will genuinely use, which frequently means recommending a cheaper plan than the one you arrived expecting to buy.

Understanding Zoho for Omani businesses
Across Oman

Zoho Billing for businesses across Oman

We implement Zoho Billing for clients in Muscat, Seeb, Sohar, Salalah, Nizwa, Barka, Sur and Duqm. Delivery is remote on Oman hours with on-site workshops where the scale justifies it.

Omani deployments almost always need three things handled properly: tax and corporate income tax treatment, integration with the finance system already in place, and training that survives the first busy month. Those are the parts we spend the most time on.

Most clients look at these next: Zoho Projects Setup Services in Oman, Zoho People in Seeb and Zoho Projects Implementation in Oman.

What we deliver

Our Zoho Billing services in Oman

Everything from first configuration to long-term support, delivered by certified consultants and quoted as a fixed price in OMR.

01

Zoho Billing implementation

Discovery, configuration and go-live shaped around your process, not a demo tenant. Fixed scope, fixed price in OMR.

02

Data migration into Zoho Billing

Legacy records profiled, cleansed, de-duplicated and loaded with a sandbox dry run and written reconciliation.

03

Integration with your stack

Connections to Thawani, OmanNet, Stripe, PayPal, Zoho Books, Zoho CRM and Zoho Analytics, built with proper error handling and monitoring rather than a fragile script.

04

Automation and customisation

Workflows, approvals, bilingual templates and custom fields so Zoho Billing removes manual steps instead of adding them.

05

Training and ongoing support

Role-specific training in English or Arabic, written runbooks and a Oman-hours care plan covering changes and escalation.

Who this is for

Where Zoho Billing is not the answer

It is a poor fit if you need a heavily bespoke system with no commercial off-the-shelf equivalent, or if nobody internally can own the data. In either case we will tell you on the first call rather than after the invoice.

Local compliance

What Oman compliance means for Zoho Billing

Oman charges VAT at 5%, so every invoice, credit note and purchase has to carry the right tax treatment, and the return is filed with the Oman Tax Authority. Corporate income tax and excise sit alongside it, and the workforce obligations - WPS salary files, Social Protection Fund contributions and end-of-service accruals - are where much of the monthly effort goes.

ObligationWhat the rule isWhat has to be configured
Value added tax5% standard rate since 16 April 2021. Registration is mandatory above OMR 38,500 of annual taxable supplies and voluntary from OMR 19,250. Listed basic foodstuffs, healthcare, education and exports are zero-rated, and imported services fall under the reverse charge.Standard, zero-rated, exempt and reverse-charge tax codes on every item and contact, bilingual tax invoices with your VAT number, and a VAT return report that comes straight out of the ledger.
E-invoicingThe Oman Tax Authority is introducing electronic invoicing (Fawtara) in phases.Structured invoice data and document numbering kept clean now, so connecting to the e-invoicing platform is a configuration step rather than a rebuild.
Excise taxExcise applies to tobacco, energy drinks, alcohol and pork at 100%, and to carbonated and sweetened drinks at 50%.Excise-liable items flagged in the product master, with excise and VAT both calculated where a product attracts them.
Corporate and withholding tax15% corporate income tax for Omani and foreign companies, with 3% for qualifying small businesses. 10% withholding tax applies to certain payments to non-residents, such as royalties and fees for services. A 5% personal income tax on high earners has been announced for 2028.A chart of accounts that produces the return figures, non-deductible costs tracked as they are posted, and withholding tax calculated on payments to foreign suppliers.
Wages and social protectionSalaries are paid through the Wage Protection System. Social Protection Fund contributions apply to Omani employees, end-of-service benefits accrue for expatriate staff under the Labour Law, and Omanisation targets apply by sector.Nationality-based contribution rules, a WPS salary file from the payroll run, and monthly end-of-service accruals reconciled to the accounts.
Establishment and licensingCommercial registration with the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion through Invest Easy, and labour clearances through the Ministry of Labour, each renewed on its own cycle.Commercial registration, labour card and resident card expiry tracked against the entity and the employees who depend on them.

The filing calendar

  • Each tax periodVAT return and payment to the Oman Tax Authority, usually quarterly
  • MonthlyWPS salary transfers and Social Protection Fund contributions
  • MonthlyWithholding tax on payments to non-residents
  • After year endCorporate income tax return

Who you file with

We configure the system to produce what these returns ask for, and we test it against your own transactions before go-live. We are not tax agents: your accountant or tax adviser signs the return, and rates and thresholds change, so treat this as the shape of the work rather than advice. Last reviewed 24 October 2026.

FAQ

Zoho Billing in Oman: questions answered

How is Zoho Billing set up for Oman VAT returns?
We map every item and contact to a VAT treatment (standard 5%, zero-rated, exempt or reverse charge), make the tax invoice template show the VAT number and per-line VAT, and test the VAT return report against a full period of your own transactions before handover. Filing stays with you or your tax agent through the Oman Tax Authority portal.
Can Zoho Billing handle import VAT and customs duty in Oman?
Yes. We record the 5% customs duty and the import VAT from the Bayan customs declaration against the purchase, so landed cost is right and the input VAT is reclaimed in the correct return period.
Which payment gateways work in Oman?
We most often connect Thawani, OmanNet and Stripe, and will advise on settlement times and fees rather than defaulting to whichever is easiest to integrate.
Does recurring billing stay tax compliant?
Yes. Each recurring invoice is issued as a proper tax invoice with your VAT registration number, correct 5% treatment and Arabic fields where you need them, so subscription revenue does not become a tax reconciliation problem.
How does it differ from recurring invoices in Zoho Books?
Books repeats a fixed document. Billing manages the subscription lifecycle: upgrades, proration, dunning, churn analytics and revenue recognition. Past a handful of plan changes a month, Billing pays for itself.
How much does Zoho Billing cost in Oman?
Zoho licences it per user or per organisation depending on the edition, billed by Zoho directly. Our implementation is quoted separately as a fixed price in OMR after a free discovery call, so there are two clear numbers and no bundled surprises.
How long does a Zoho Billing rollout take?
A focused Zoho Billing build for a small Omani team typically goes live in three to six weeks including data migration and training. Larger scopes with integrations or multi-entity requirements are phased so value lands early.
Which hours do you work?
Our consultants work Oman hours (AST, UTC+3), Sunday to Thursday, for workshops, training and support, with cover outside core hours for critical issues.
