Odoo Development in South Africa: the short answer
- What it is
- Odoo development in South Africa: custom modules, API integrations, performance work and code rescue, with tests and documentation included.
- Best suited to
- Companies in South Africa that want a fixed price and a date, delivered by named consultants rather than a ticket queue.
- Typical timeline
- A focused single-app rollout for a small team goes live in three to six weeks. A multi-app deployment with data migration and integrations usually runs eight to sixteen weeks.
- What it costs
- Implementation is quoted as a fixed price in ZAR after a free 30-minute discovery call, and depends on the number of apps, the state of your data and the integrations you need. Odoo bills its software licence separately, per user and per app.
- Local specifics
- 15% VAT returns filed to SARS through eFiling. monthly EMP201 PAYE declarations, UIF and SDL. B-BBEE and supplier compliance (supplier compliance) for construction subcontractors.

Odoo Development in South Africa
Shyphan is an Official Odoo Partner delivering Odoo Development to businesses across Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban. Every engagement starts with a free 30-minute discovery call and a written summary, and turns into a fixed-scope statement of work with dates before anyone starts building.
What makes an South African Odoo project different from a generic one is the regulatory detail. 15% VAT returns filed to SARS through eFiling; monthly EMP201 PAYE declarations, UIF and SDL; and B-BBEE and supplier compliance (supplier compliance) for construction subcontractors. All of it has to be right in the system rather than corrected in a spreadsheet afterwards, and that is where a partner who works in this market every week earns their fee.
You own the outcome: your database, your data and any code we write, documented and handed over. Delivery is in English on South African time (SAST), Monday to Friday, with named consultants rather than a ticket queue.
What you get

Where this service is weak - and what we do about it
No implementation partner can fix a process nobody owns internally. Projects fail on unowned data cleansing, scope that grows without being re-priced, and training cut to hit a date - not on the software.
How we handle it: We name those three as risks in the proposal, and ask you to nominate an internal owner before we start.
What compliance in South Africa means in practice
Almost everything South African SARS wants arrives through eFiling, and payroll arrives on or before the day people are paid. For a subsidiary of an overseas group the harder part is usually not the South African return itself but keeping the South African books in a shape that satisfies both SARS and the parent's reporting calendar.
| Obligation | What the rule is | What has to be configured |
|---|---|---|
| VAT | The standard rate is 23 per cent, with 13.5 and 9 per cent reduced rates and a zero rate on several categories. VAT201 returns are monthly or bi-monthly depending on turnover through eFiling by the last business day of the month, and a Return of Trading Details follows annually. | Tax rules per rate and per supply type, VAT on imported services, zero-rated exports and the correct treatment of exempt supplies, and a VAT201 that reconciles to the ledger without a spreadsheet in between. |
| PAYE with monthly EMP201 declarations | A payroll submission goes to SARS on or before each payday, carrying PAYE, UIF and SDL for every employee. There is no annual EMP501 reconciliation. | SARS tax directives imported before each run, so employees are taxed on the credits SARS has actually issued rather than last month's. |
| B-BBEE and supplier compliance | Principal contractors in construction, forestry and meat processing must notify each contract and each payment to SARS, and deduct at the rate SARS returns. | Supplier records that hold the VAT registration number, B-BBEE certificate and payment terms, with remittance advice built in.to the payment run. |
| Corporation tax | 12.5 per cent on trading income and 25 per cent on passive income, with a 15 per cent effective minimum for in-scope large groups under Pillar Two. | Trading and non-trading income separated in the ledger from the start, because splitting them afterwards is where the time goes. |
| Companies and Intellectual Property Commission | An annual return on CIPC annual return within 56 days of the annual return date, with financial statements attached. | Statutory accounts produced from the same ledger the management accounts come from, so the two do not have to be reconciled. |
| POPIA | The the Information Regulator supervises POPIA in South Africa, and is lead supervisory authority for many of the technology companies established here. | Lawful-basis and consent records held against the contact, retention applied by the system, and subject access answered from a report rather than a search of inboxes. |

We configure the system to produce what these returns ask for, and we test it against your own transactions before go-live. We are not tax agents: your accountant or tax adviser signs the return, and rates and thresholds change, so treat this as the shape of the work rather than advice. Last reviewed 15 September 2026.
