Business software built for Bahrain

Bahrain has one of the highest GDPs per capita in the world and is diversifying hard under Bahrain Economic Vision 2030, with sustained investment in construction, logistics, sport, tourism, financial services and technology. Companies operating onshore, inside BLZ or the Bahrain Financial Harbour, or across all three, adopt Zoho and Odoo to run finance, sales and operations on a single system.

Why businesses in Bahrain choose Shyphan

Contracting, logistics, energy services, hospitality, retail and professional services firms make up the bulk of the Bahraini private sector, and a great many of them still run on spreadsheets and disconnected tools. We put a single system in place - quotes, orders, invoices, stock and collections - without asking the team to change how they actually work.

Bahrain applies no VAT today. A GCC-wide VAT has been agreed in principle but is not yet in force, so what matters now is excise tax on tobacco, energy and soft drinks, and corporate income tax at 10% on the foreign-owned share of profits - Bahraini and GCC-owned entities are largely exempt. Returns are filed with the National Bureau for Revenue through its the NBR portal portal. We configure your finance system for the NBR portal-ready records, riyal and multi-currency working, SIO contributions and bilingual Arabic and English documents.

FAQ

Custom ERP Development Riffa: questions answered

Should we build a custom ERP or configure Zoho?
Configure first. A well-configured Zoho or similar platform beats a custom ERP on cost, risk and maintenance almost every time. We recommend custom only for the parts that genuinely have no packaged equivalent, and often the answer is a configured core with one or two custom modules around it.
How long does a custom ERP take?
Realistically six to eighteen months depending on scope, phased so each release delivers before the next starts. Anyone promising a full custom ERP in a quarter is describing a prototype.
What happens to our existing data?
It is profiled, cleansed and migrated with a sandbox dry run and a written reconciliation, exactly as we do on any platform migration. Bad legacy data is the most common reason ERP go-lives slip.
How much does custom ERP development cost in Bahrain?
We quote a fixed price in BHD after a discovery session, broken into phases so you are never committing to the whole build on day one. Anyone quoting a number before understanding the process is guessing, and you will pay for that guess later.
What happens after launch?
You own everything: code, repositories, cloud accounts and documentation. Most clients take a monthly support retainer for fixes, security patching and enhancements, but you are free to take it in-house or elsewhere.
Do you sign an NDA before we share our data?
Yes, as a matter of course. We also work in a sandbox with masked or sample data wherever the real thing is not needed.
Can you work in Arabic as well as English?
Yes. We deliver training and documentation in either language and build bilingual templates, forms and portals where your customers or staff need Arabic.
Can we speak to a reference client?
Yes. After the discovery call we will introduce you to a client of comparable size and sector wherever we have one who has agreed to act as a reference.
Will you work with our existing accountant?
Yes, and we prefer to. They know your filing position and we know the system. We set the books up so their year-end work is straightforward, and we will sit on a call with them during design rather than handing over a configuration they have never seen.
Can you help a company still running on spreadsheets?
That is the usual starting point and it is not a problem. We migrate customers, suppliers, open balances and stock from Excel, clean the duplicates on the way in, and run the old sheet alongside the new system for the first cycle so nobody has to trust it blindly.
Does Bahrain charge VAT?
Not today. A GCC-wide VAT has been agreed in principle but is not in force in Bahrain, so there is no output VAT to charge or reclaim. What does apply is excise tax on tobacco, energy drinks and soft drinks, and corporate income tax at 10% on the foreign-owned share of profits. We configure the ledger so that if VAT does arrive, turning it on is a configuration change rather than a rebuild.
How long does a build take?
A first usable version of a focused product typically ships in six to ten weeks, with a clickable prototype inside the first two so you are reacting to something real rather than to a document. Larger platforms run in phases of four to six weeks, and we release at the end of each phase rather than holding everything back for a single launch. Scope, integrations and how fast decisions come back from your side set the real number.

Who this is for

Is Custom ERP Development in Riffa the right fit for you?

Custom ERP Development in Riffa suits groups running onshore, BLZ and BFH entities that need one set of numbers on top. If that is you, a prototype in the first two weeks will tell you more than another month of specification will.

It is a poor fit if an off-the-shelf product already covers ninety per cent of what you need, or if the requirements are still changing weekly. We will say so rather than bill for the discovery.

Local compliance

What Bahrain compliance means in practice

Bahrain has no personal income tax and no general corporate income tax, so most of the compliance load sits in two places: VAT with the National Bureau for Revenue, and the workforce obligations administered by the SIO and the LMRA.

ObligationWhat the rule isWhat has to be configured
VATVAT is 10 per cent, raised from 5 per cent in January 2022. Registration is compulsory above the mandatory threshold. Returns are monthly for larger taxpayers and quarterly for the rest, filed with the National Bureau for Revenue.Tax codes for standard, zero-rated and exempt supplies, tax invoices carrying the fields the NBR requires in Arabic and English, and a return that reconciles to the ledger.
Corporate taxationThere is no general corporate income tax; it applies only to oil and gas activity. A 15 per cent Domestic Minimum Top-up Tax applies to in-scope multinational groups from 2025.For a group subsidiary, a ledger that supports the parent's consolidation and the top-up tax computation without a separate set of books.
Social insuranceContributions go to the Social Insurance Organisation, at different rates for Bahraini and expatriate employees. Two contribution rule sets applied by nationality, so the payroll does not need a manual adjustment every month.
Bahrainisation and the LMRAThe Labour Market Regulatory Authority administers work permits and the Bahrainisation ratio your licence requires.Nationality, permit number and expiry held against every employee, with the ratio reported rather than counted by hand, and permit expiry alerts before they bite.
Wage Protection SystemSalaries must be paid through the Wage Protection System so that payment is traceable to the registered employment record.A WPS-format payment file generated from the payroll run, matched to the same employee records the permits are held against.
Commercial registrationCommercial registrations are maintained through Sijilat and renewed annually, with activity codes that have to match what you actually do.Licence and registration expiry tracked in the system alongside the contracts that depend on them.

The filing calendar

  • Monthly or quarterlyVAT return to the NBR
  • MonthlySIO contributions and WPS salary transfer
  • On renewalLMRA work permits and Sijilat commercial registration
  • AnnuallyFinancial statements, and the DMTT return where it applies

Who you file with

We configure the system to produce what these returns ask for, and we test it against your own transactions before go-live. We are not tax agents: your accountant or tax adviser signs the return, and rates and thresholds change, so treat this as the shape of the work rather than advice. Last reviewed 15 September 2026.

Where custom development is weak - and what we do about it

Bespoke software costs more than configuring a product and you own it forever, including the maintenance. If an off-the-shelf tool covers 80% of the need, building from scratch is usually the wrong call.

How we handle it: We say so at the first call, even when it means a smaller project - and we scope the 20% as a configuration or integration job instead.
