Ransomware Protection
Ransomware protection is a set of controls that make encryption attacks harder to start, quicker to detect and possible to recover from without paying. It is for businesses that could not run for long without their files, ERP or email.
- Backups attackers cannot delete
- Early detection of encryption
- A tested recovery plan
Ransomware protection is a layered set of controls that makes encryption attacks harder to start, quicker to detect and recoverable without paying a ransom. It combines hardened remote access, MFA, limited admin rights, EDR and immutable backups with a tested recovery plan. Shyphan AI ITSM assesses, builds and maintains these defences for organisations in the UAE and Saudi Arabia.
Ransomware ProtectionRansomware Protection: what it involves
Ransomware rarely arrives as a single event. Attackers usually get in through phishing, an exposed remote desktop or an unpatched VPN, spend time gaining admin rights, delete or encrypt backups, and often copy data before encrypting it. By the time the ransom note appears, recovery depends on decisions made months earlier: whether backups were isolated, whether admin rights were limited and whether anyone had practised a restore.
We look at the whole attack path rather than one product. That means closing exposed remote access, enforcing MFA, limiting admin rights, deploying EDR with ransomware behaviour detection and segmenting the network. On the recovery side we set up immutable or offline backup copies, separate backup credentials and documented restore runbooks. Then we test a restore with you, so recovery times are known rather than guessed.
Ransomware readiness check
- 1At least one backup copy is offline or immutable
- 2Backup consoles use separate accounts with MFA
- 3No remote desktop is exposed directly to the internet
- 4EDR is active on servers as well as laptops
- 5A restore of a key system has been tested recently
Our Ransomware Protection scope
Prevention, detection and recoverable backups so ransomware cannot halt your operations.

Exposed RDP, VPN and remote tools secured or removed.
EDR rules that spot mass encryption and stop the process.
Fewer standing admin accounts for attackers to reach.
Backup copies that cannot be altered or deleted for a set period.
Regular test restores to prove systems can come back.
Clear steps for the first hours of an attack.
What you receive, and what shapes the cost
What you receive
- Ransomware readiness assessment with findings ranked by urgency
- Hardened remote access, with exposed RDP and unused remote tools removed
- Immutable or offline backup copy protected by separate admin credentials
- Recorded test restore of at least one critical system
- Response runbook with contacts, decisions and first-hour steps
What affects the cost
- Size of the server and endpoint estate and number of sites
- Volume of data to protect and the backup retention you need
- Whether existing backup and EDR tools can be reused or must be replaced
- Depth of restore testing and response planning required
Ransomware Protection: project phases
- 01Attack path review
We check how an attacker could get in, gain admin rights and reach your backups.
- 02Close entry points
Exposed services are removed, MFA is enforced and admin rights are reduced.
- 03Protect backups
An isolated or immutable copy is created and backup consoles are separated from the main domain.
- 04Test and rehearse
Restores are tested and leadership walks through the runbook in a tabletop exercise.
Common Ransomware Protection mistakes
If backup servers share admin accounts with production, attackers can delete them, so separate credentials and networks.
Backups that have never been restored may be incomplete or too slow, so test key systems regularly.
Many attacks copy data before encrypting it, so watching outbound transfers matters as much as backups.
If email and Teams are encrypted, staff cannot reach each other, so keep contacts and the runbook available offline.
Ransomware Protection terms explained
- Immutable backup
- A backup copy that cannot be altered or deleted until its retention period ends.
- Double extortion
- When attackers both encrypt data and threaten to publish stolen copies.
- Recovery point objective (RPO)
- The maximum amount of data, measured in time, the business can afford to lose.
- Recovery time objective (RTO)
- How quickly a system must be running again after an outage.

The difference you will notice
- 01Harder to attack
Common entry routes closed and admin rights reduced.
- 02Recoverable data
Clean backups available even if production is encrypted.
- 03Known recovery steps
A tested plan instead of decisions made under pressure.
Five steps from assessment to always-on support
- STEP 01Assess
We review your infrastructure, security posture, assets and support model, and agree priorities.
- STEP 02Design
A clear architecture and plan, with scope, timeline and a fixed quote before work starts.
- STEP 03Deploy
We supply, install, configure and migrate, then document everything we build.
- STEP 04Manage
Ongoing support, monitoring and maintenance under agreed SLAs.
- STEP 05Improve
Regular reviews, reports and recommendations as your business grows.
Ransomware Protection in the UAE and Saudi Arabia
Local offices in Ras Al Khaimah and Riyadh, remote support around the clock and on-site visits where your project needs them.

Ransomware Protection in the UAE
Shyphan AI Technology LLC, RAK Free Trade Zone, Ras Al KhaimahFor UAE organisations we often place an immutable backup copy in Microsoft Azure's UAE North (Dubai) or UAE Central (Abu Dhabi) region so recovery data stays in the country, which helps with PDPL and customer residency questions. Multi-emirate businesses also need a recovery order agreed in advance for each site and system. We support the Emirates from our Ras Al Khaimah office, remotely around the clock and on site where needed.
- Data handled in line with the UAE Personal Data Protection Law (Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021), and the separate DIFC and ADGM regimes where they apply.

Ransomware Protection in Saudi Arabia
Shyphan AI Technologies LLC, Malaz, King Abdulaziz Road, RiyadhSaudi organisations often prefer recovery data to stay within the Kingdom because of PDPL transfer rules and sector expectations, so we design backup locations with that in mind and record where each copy sits. Backup and recovery are also covered by the NCA Essential Cybersecurity Controls, so tested restores provide useful compliance evidence. Our Riyadh office leads this work in the Kingdom.
- Work aligned with the Saudi Personal Data Protection Law (SDAIA) and, for government and critical infrastructure, the NCA Essential Cybersecurity Controls.
Ransomware Protection: common questions
Are backups enough to protect against ransomware?
No. Backups are essential for recovery, but attackers often target them and also steal data, so prevention and detection matter just as much.
What is an immutable backup?
It is a backup copy that cannot be changed or deleted until a set retention period ends, even by an administrator account.
Should we pay a ransom?
That is a decision for your leadership, legal advisers and insurers. Our aim is to make sure you can recover without needing to consider it.
Can you help during an active attack?
Yes. Our cyber incident response service can help contain the attack, preserve evidence and restore systems.
What should a company in Dubai or Riyadh do first if ransomware appears?
Disconnect affected devices from the network without switching them off, contact your incident response provider and avoid deleting anything. Our 24/7 team can guide the first steps remotely.
Do cyber insurers ask about ransomware controls?
Many insurers ask about MFA, EDR, backups and patching before offering cover. We can help you answer those questions accurately and close gaps first.
Do you provide Ransomware Protection in Dubai and Riyadh?
Yes. We deliver Ransomware Protection across the UAE from our Ras Al Khaimah office and across Saudi Arabia from our Riyadh office, with remote support 24/7 and on-site visits in cities such as Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam where your project needs them.
