Azure Virtual Desktop
Windows desktops and applications hosted in Azure and delivered securely to staff on any device. For organisations with remote workers, contractors, seasonal teams or legacy apps that need a controlled Windows environment.
- Data stays in Azure, not on laptops
- Desktops scale with demand
- Ready for contractors and remote staff
Azure Virtual Desktop is Microsoft's service for delivering Windows desktops and applications from Azure to users on almost any device. A setup includes host pools, user profile storage, application delivery, security and scaling rules, so staff get a consistent desktop from home, office or abroad while company data stays in the cloud rather than on local devices.
Azure Virtual DesktopAzure Virtual Desktop: what it involves
Some work does not suit a laptop full of local data. Contractors need access for a few months, finance staff use an old application that only runs on Windows, contact centre teams change size with the season, and auditors ask why client files sit on personal devices. Traditional remote desktop servers in the office are hard to scale, depend on one site's internet link and need hardware refreshes.
We design Azure Virtual Desktop around user groups: pooled multi-session hosts for task workers, personal desktops for power users and RemoteApp for single applications. User profiles run on FSLogix with Azure Files, images are built and patched centrally, and access is protected by Entra ID, MFA and conditional access. Scaling plans start and stop hosts with working hours to control cost, and we size the environment from a pilot with real users rather than assumptions.
Before you deploy AVD
- 1Which user groups need full desktops and which need single apps
- 2Applications that must be tested on multi-session Windows
- 3Where users are located and the quality of their connections
- 4Licences that already include Azure Virtual Desktop access rights
- 5Printing, scanning and peripheral needs for each group
Our Azure Virtual Desktop scope
Secure Windows desktops and apps delivered from Azure to any device

Pooled, personal or RemoteApp delivery for each user group.
User profiles stored on Azure Files for consistent sign-in.
Golden images built, patched and updated centrally.
Entra ID, MFA and conditional access for every session.
Hosts start and stop with working hours to manage cost.
Sizing confirmed with real users before full rollout.
What you receive, and what shapes the cost
What you receive
- A design for host pools, session hosts and user profile storage
- A golden image with core business applications installed
- FSLogix profile containers configured for consistent user settings
- Scaling plans that start and stop hosts to match working hours
- Admin documentation and user connection guides
What affects the cost
- Number of concurrent users and their application needs
- Whether users need pooled sessions or personal desktops
- Graphics or performance demands of the applications
- Network connectivity required to reach on-premise systems
Azure Virtual Desktop: project phases
- 01Requirements
We gather user types, applications, locations and performance needs.
- 02Build
We create the image, host pools, profile storage and security settings.
- 03Pilot
Selected users test daily work and we tune sizing and settings.
- 04Rollout
We move remaining users in groups and set up monitoring and scaling.
Common Azure Virtual Desktop mistakes
Running large hosts all day wastes money, so use scaling plans and right-size after pilot.
User settings lost between sessions frustrate staff, so use FSLogix profile containers.
Users far from the hosting region feel lag, so place hosts near users and test from their locations.
Old images spread vulnerabilities to every host, so update images on a regular cycle.
Azure Virtual Desktop terms explained
- Host pool
- A group of Azure virtual machines that deliver desktops or apps to users.
- Session host
- A virtual machine that runs user sessions within a host pool.
- FSLogix
- Technology that stores user profiles in containers so settings follow users between sessions.
- Multi-session Windows
- A Windows edition that lets several users share one virtual machine at once.

The difference you will notice
- 01Data kept central
Company files stay in Azure rather than on endpoints.
- 02Faster onboarding
New users and contractors get access without shipping hardware.
- 03Cost that follows usage
Hosts scale down outside working hours.
Five steps from assessment to always-on support
- STEP 01Assess
We review your infrastructure, security posture, assets and support model, and agree priorities.
- STEP 02Design
A clear architecture and plan, with scope, timeline and a fixed quote before work starts.
- STEP 03Deploy
We supply, install, configure and migrate, then document everything we build.
- STEP 04Manage
Ongoing support, monitoring and maintenance under agreed SLAs.
- STEP 05Improve
Regular reviews, reports and recommendations as your business grows.
Azure Virtual Desktop in the UAE and Saudi Arabia
Local offices in Ras Al Khaimah and Riyadh, remote support around the clock and on-site visits where your project needs them.

Azure Virtual Desktop in the UAE
Shyphan AI Technology LLC, RAK Free Trade Zone, Ras Al KhaimahUAE organisations can run Azure Virtual Desktop in UAE North or UAE Central, keeping desktops and data close to users and inside the country. It suits firms with staff across several emirates, contractors who need controlled access and teams that must keep client data off personal devices under UAE PDPL obligations. We support the Emirates from our Ras Al Khaimah office, remotely around the clock and on site where needed.
- Data handled in line with the UAE Personal Data Protection Law (Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021), and the separate DIFC and ADGM regimes where they apply.

Azure Virtual Desktop in Saudi Arabia
Shyphan AI Technologies LLC, Malaz, King Abdulaziz Road, RiyadhSaudi organisations can use virtual desktops to give staff in Riyadh, Jeddah and the Eastern Province secure access without storing data on local devices. Before choosing a hosting region we review data classification under the Saudi PDPL and, where relevant, NCA controls, then test performance from each Saudi location. Our Riyadh office leads this work in the Kingdom.
- Work aligned with the Saudi Personal Data Protection Law (SDAIA) and, for government and critical infrastructure, the NCA Essential Cybersecurity Controls.
Azure Virtual Desktop: common questions
Do users need special hardware?
No. Users connect from Windows, Mac, iOS, Android, web browsers or thin clients.
Is Azure Virtual Desktop included in Microsoft 365?
Access rights are included in several Microsoft 365 and Windows Enterprise licences. You still pay for the Azure compute and storage the desktops use.
What happens to user settings between sessions?
FSLogix profile containers keep each user's settings and files consistent across sessions and hosts.
Can AVD replace our remote desktop servers?
Yes, in most cases. We test your applications in a pilot before moving users from existing RDS servers.
Will Azure Virtual Desktop feel slow for users in Riyadh?
Performance depends on distance to the hosting region and the user's connection, so we test from your locations during the pilot before rollout.
Can contractors use Azure Virtual Desktop without company laptops?
Yes. They connect from their own devices while data stays on the virtual desktop, with copy and paste and downloads restricted if required.
Do you provide Azure Virtual Desktop in Dubai and Riyadh?
Yes. We deliver Azure Virtual Desktop across the UAE from our Ras Al Khaimah office and across Saudi Arabia from our Riyadh office, with remote support 24/7 and on-site visits in cities such as Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam where your project needs them.
